A brand new clothing and memorabilia store has opened its doors for fans and students of the University of Alabama alike who enjoy a stroll down memory lane.

Alabama Vintage exclusively sells old school Crimson Tide souvenirs, from snapbacks and track jackets from the 80s and 90s to a bench that was owned by Fred Sington, the All-American linebacker who led the Crimson Tide to the national championship in 1930.

For owner Charlie Nelson, the store is a dream come true after years of collecting merchandise from thrift stores and selling it to students.

"I realized my fraternity brothers were trying to buy all of my stuff and I thought 'well I could get some extra beer money, I might as well just start selling online,' and it kind of went from there," Nelson said.

Nelson graduated from UA in 2018 and decided to keep the business going as a side project while he worked as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch — then COVID-19 happened. While in quarantine, Nelson refocused his energy into the store and opened his first brick and mortar in Huntsville. Before long he was working to open up shop in downtown Tuscaloosa.

"It's always been my dream, just to have my own business and I was never really sure," Nelson said. "I always thought that reselling was just going to be on the side like, 'oh, that's not gonna make me enough money,' and then it just blew up during the quarantine. Then I was like 'damn I might be on to something.'"

Alabama Vintage is holding a grand opening weekend sale where the store will give a 15% discount to customers who purchase two or more items. For more information check out Alabama Vintage on Facebook.
