Jameson Kyle Boley has asked a circuit judge to review and reduce the bonds on three pending felony charges. The 40-year-old claims in court filings that the $300,000 in cash only bond is excessively high for the charges against him.

Boley's filing states, under Rule 7 of the Alabama Rules of Criminal Procedure, the recommended bond ranges are:

  • Class C felonies (chemical endangerment): $2,500 to $15,000
  • Unlawful manufacture of a destructive device: $5,000 to $30,000

Boley is the father of the late 4-year-old Johnathan Everett Boley, who disappeared this past New Year's Eve and whose body was later found in woods near his father's home. The Walker County Sheriff's Office and SBI investigation found that the elder Boley was not involved in the boy's death.

However, during the search for the child, volunteer searchers found what was believed to be an improvised explosive device inside the home and recovered a smoke bomb from the top of a closet. Deputies also allegedly found methamphetamine spread across a dresser. along with multiple firearms and magazines unsecured and accessible to children. The weapons were later found to be legal.

In a Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus asked the court to order the Walker County Sheriff to produce him for a hearing and to determine whether his current bonds are “excessive and unjust.” The petition names outgoing Sheriff Nick Smith as the defendant.

According to the filing, Boley was arrested around Jan. 2, 2026, and “has been incarcerated since that date," on two counts of chemical endangerment of a child and Unlawful manufacture of a destructive device.

A virtual court hearing will be conduct of Boley's request later this month.
