HEAD-SCRATCHING HEIST: Thieves Make Off with 200-Foot Radio Tower in Jasper, AL
Police and broadcasters in Walker County, Alabama are trying to solve a truly bizarre mystery after thieves made off with a 200-foot-tall radio tower in Jasper last week.
Brett Elmore, the owner of WJLX and WJBE, took to Facebook last Friday to report the head-scratching heist and ask anyone with information about the theft to contact the police.

"I have heard of thieves in this area stealing anything, but this one takes the cake," Elmore wrote. "This morning, my bush hog crew went down to a tower site we have behind [the Mar-Jac poultry processing plant] to do an early cleanup of the property before we did some more work down there. When he arrived, he called and notified me that not only was my building vandalized, but my TWO HUNDRED FOOT TOWER WAS GONE!"
Elmore said somehow, thieves raided and vandalized a building, stole every piece of equipment, then cut the extra high-strength guy wires supporting the 200-foot tower, which is made of steel, and removed it wholesale from the property.
"Jasper Police is investigating and hopefully they will find who did it," Elmore wrote. "It is a FEDERAL crime to tamper with a federally licensed facility. If you have any information, please call the Jasper Police Department at 205-221-2121."
