Fouts previously tried out for Team USA in the fall of 2019 after competing with the U19 team that summer and earned third place at the International Cup. Since then, Fouts has taken the softball world by storm. She led the NCAA with 349 strikeouts, struck out 13 batters over six innings for a career-best, and threw an SEC tournament record of 39 strikeouts over 20 innings, including a shutout of Florida to win the SEC tournament.

Fouts' dominating performance continued at the Women's College World Series. She tied for a career-high of 16 strikeouts against the Arizona Wildcats in the Tide's first matchup in the post-season. On her 21st birthday, Fouts threw a perfect game against the No. 1 UCLA Bruins and Olympic Silver Medalist Rachel Garcia.

Hemphill ended her career as Alabama's all-time home runs leader and SEC career walks leader. The SEC Player of the Year led the team in batting average (.419), home runs (14), RBIs (57), walks (57), on-base percentages (.581), and slugging percentage (.770). Hemphill holds the single-season record for 26 home runs and 84 RBIs.

The trials will start January 1-6, 2022 at the Jackie Robinson Training Camp in Vero Beach, FL. All invitees will be trying for a spot on the 18-player roster for the 2022 team that will compete in the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, AL.
