The University of Alabama's Student Government Association announced a new week-long inclusivity initiative titled "One UA."
In a Monday press release, SGA Director of Communications Will Bradley said the organization will sponsor events throughout the week that will focus on "building a more inclusive campus."
"It’s a campaign focusing on inclusivity on campus by letting students know that yes, we’re all different, but at the end of the day we’re one big happy family at UA," SGA president Demarcus Joiner said.
The week of Sept. 21-25 will feature a unique event each day that will highlight diversity at UA's campus. On Monday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., prominent food truck Blenz Bowls will donate a percentage of its sales to Change of Colors, the nation's largest online racial justice organization.
"The broad reason is that elections sometimes bring out the worst in people," Joiner said. "We want to be proactive in getting people to understand that we can voice our opinions in a respectful way. Also, with everything going on in the nation and the world right now, we want to educate our students on the impact of hate, and also the impact of being inclusive and welcoming."
The week will also include a virtual movie night and a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion certification program for on-campus organizations. The week will conclude with a virtual presentation from Jane Elliott, the creator of the "Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes" racism exercise.

“This is another step in SGA’s long-term mission to be the leading voice encouraging diversity on our campus in all its facets," Bradley said. "As ‘OneUA,’ SGA hopes our campus can chart a path forward that is more diverse, more inclusive, more just and more equal.”
