Alabama Rolls Past Southern Miss
It was all Bama in this game as the Alabama Crimson Tide softball team shut out the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 5-0.
Montana Fouts shined in the circle as she pitched six innings while giving up just one hit and striking out 10.
Jenna Johnson delivered the big blow on offense as her three-run shot in the 4th put the Tide up 3-0.
Although Kenleigh Cahalan's hitting-streak came to an end, it just proved the great amount of depth this team displays as they were still able to provide offense with everyone contributing.
Ashley Prange opened up the scoring in the third with an RBI single scoring Larissa Preuitt and a Bailey Dowling double in the fifth scored Prange to put Alabama on top 5-0.
Alex Salter came on in the seventh to replace Fouts and shut the door for her team. After surrendering a leadoff walk and a single, she eventually settled in and got the final three outs as the Tide cruised to a shutout victory.
Head coach Patrick Murphy said he was excited to see the bats rolling, especially Johnson's big blow.
"The two-out hitting from Prange and Dowling and then the three-run home run was the big shot tonight from Jenna," Murphy said. "She has been hitting it hard in practice and working extra hard and it was cool to see somebody that works so hard have success in a game."
The Tide will look to stay hot as the long home stand continues this Friday against Robert Morris at 4 p.m. CT.
