Alabama Junior Disc Golf Tournament Coming to Tuscaloosa
Young disc golf players from across the Southeast will have a chance compete this summer in Tuscaloosa.
The Tuscaloosa Disc Golf Club is hosting the third annual Alabama Junior Disc Golf Championship on August 5 at 9 a.m. After two years in Opelika, the tournament is moving to Robert Cardinal Airport Park.
Tournament director, Todd Bryant, said the move is a natural part of the event's growth. "Most disc golf tournaments move around to give people the opportunity to be a little closer...and to play on a different course," said Bryant.
The event will be available to athletes ages 18 and younger, and will feature divisions based on age and gender.
A press release from the event said the registration fee would have separate pricing for competitors. The fee was listed at $20 for ages 10 and under, and $25 for ages 11-18.
The event website said with their registration, participants would receive the following:
- Two tournament stamped discs
- A custom mini marker
- A tournament T-shirt
- One round of play (younger than 12); two rounds of play (Ages 12 and up)
- Entry fee for the state putting championship
The press release said the deadline to register for the tournament is August 3. Additionally, the deadline to order a shirt for the event is July 22.
The tournament itself will have two rounds. The first round for older competitors will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 5. The second round will be held "following a lunch break," and feature separate runs for both the older and younger competitors.
Todd Bryant, the tournament director, said that the event means a lot for Tuscaloosa. "Tuscaloosa is a town where disc golf is really about to take off," said Bryant. "It's a big deal to host the state championship."
The public is invited to come and watch the competition this August. Those interested in competing can register here.
