Each day counting down to Alabama's Week 1 matchup with Utah State, I will highlight one former player whose jersey number coincides with the amount of days until the game. Today, let's look at a recent Crimson Tide star who has quickly made a name for himself in the NFL as well, Christian Barmore.

A member of Alabama's fifth ranked 2018 recruiting class, Christian Barmore joined the team as a four-star recruit from Philadelphia, PA.

In high school, Barmore originally committed to play football at his hometown school of Temple, but reopened his recruitment as a senior and ultimately chose the Crimson Tide over the likes of Georgia, LSU and Florida.

As a freshman, the 6-foot-5 290 lb. defensive lineman redshirted but quickly worked his way into the lineup in his second year. 2019 saw Barmore appear in 12 games with one start, and finish the year as an SEC All-Freshman selection after posting 26 tackles, 6.0 TFL's and 2.0 sacks.

In 2020, the Philadelphia native took over as a starter and put together an incredible season. Barmore was named a First Team All-American by CBS Sports as well as earning First Team All-SEC honors for his 37 tackle, 9.5 TFL, and 8.0 sack season.

The Tide finished the year undefeated and won its 18th national championship, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes in convincing fashion, 52-24.

Heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, Barmore was widely considered a top defensive line prospect and was selected 38th overall to the New England Patriots, reuniting with Mac Jones who had been selected in the first round.

In his rookie season, Barmore showed glimpses of what he did at Alabama, recording 46 tackles and 1.5 sacks.  While his numbers where nothing overwhelming, he provided near constant pressure anytime he was on the field and was a run-stopping machine.

Looking ahead to this coming season, Barmore will likely be a key piece of New England's defensive front as the Patriots look to return to the playoffs.
