22-Year-Old Gordo Man Dies After Saturday Night Wreck Near Tuscaloosa
A young Gordo man has died after a Saturday night wreck outside of Tuscaloosa, State Troopers said Sunday.
Senior Trooper Justin O'Neal, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said 22-year-old Emmanual Martinez was critically injured when he was involved in a single-vehicle accident on I-20/59 Saturday.
O'Neal said Martinez was driving a 1996 GMC Sierra when he left the roadway and struck a ditch, then a tree. Troopers said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was badly injured.
He was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, but succumbed to his injuries SUnday and died.
O'Neal said the accident took place near Mile Marker 79, three miles north of Tuscaloosa city limits.
No other details were available Sunday.
