Taylor said witnesses reported a woman was driving a Nissan Versa east on 15th Street when she attempted to make a U-turn and head the other direction. The Versa was struck by a Dodge Charger that was driving west, Taylor said. The accident occurred near Cloverdale Road, just past Cook Out on 15th.

The driver, a 67-year-old woman from Ralph, Alabama, and her passenger, a 51-year-old male, were both transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, but neither survived the injuries they sustained in the collision. The passenger was also a Ralph resident, Taylor said.

Taylor did not identify the victims by name Thursday.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was uninjured.

Taylor said TPD's Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the deadly wreck and the circumstances that led up to it.

The westbound lanes of 15th Street were closed after the wreck, but reopened to traffic just before 2 p.m. Thursday.
