Police in Tuscaloosa are investigating after a Friday afternoon shooting that left one man injured, a police spokeswoman has confirmed.

Stephanie Taylor, the Tuscaloosa Police Department's public information officer, said investigators believe the shooter and victim were originally in separate vehicles near the intersection of 35th Street and 11th Avenue.

Shots were fired, and a man was struck in the leg, Taylor said.

Both vehicles left the scene, and Taylor said the victim ended up at a residence on 11th Court, where he called police and officers responded just after 4 p.m. Friday.

Police do not believe the victim's injury is life-threatening, Taylor said, and a search is underway for the shooter.

The multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit was en route to the scene of the shooting early Friday evening and will take over the investigation. Any further details will be released by the VCU.
