Police in Woodstock have fatally shot a West Alabama man made famous by a viral podcast called S-Town after he allegedly brandished a gun during a standoff Sunday.

The show, produced by Serial and This American Life, was predominantly about Woodstock's John B McLemore, who committed suicide in 2015, and his friendship with Joseph Tyler Goodson, who went by Tyler and was killed Sunday.

Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed they have launched an investigation after the Woodstock Police Department reported the deadly officer-involved shooting Sunday.

O'Neal said ALEA believes shortly after midnight, police in Woodstock responded to Georgia Loop in Bibb County, where Goodson was barricaded inside a residence and a standoff ensued.

In his since-deleted last post on Facebook, Goodson said police were "about to shoot him down in his own yard."

Goodson allegedly brandished a gun at police, who opened fire and killed him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

O'Neal said ALEA will investigate the shooting and turn over their findings to the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges are warranted by the shooting.
