An adult woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on a highway in Northport Tuesday evening, police have confirmed.

Keith Carpenter, the assistant chief of the Northport Police Department, told the Thread that officers were called around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on reports of an accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

Carpenter said a vehicle traveling south on Lurleen B, Wallace Boulevard struck a woman in the roadway near 24th Street.

The pedestrian, an adult woman, did not survive her injuries, Carpenter said.

NPD has not released the identify of the victim pending notification of her family, and those details are expected to be made public sometime Wednesday.
