William “Bill” J. Bellan, Jr. (February 16th, 1958 – August 11th, 2026)

William J. "Bill" Bellan, Jr., 68, of Northport, Alabama, passed away on August 11, 2026, at the Palliative Care and Comfort Unit at UAB.

Services will be held on Friday, August 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home in Northport. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Junkin Bellan, Sr., and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Sherry Bellan; son Matthew Bellan (Cassie); daughter Mary Rose Bellan (Nathan Goh); son Brian Bellan (Hillary) of Covington, Tennessee; grandchildren Ellison and Will Bellan, also of Covington; mother Edna Rose Bellan of Natchez, Mississippi; brother Michael Bellan (Jeri Ann) of Mandeville, Louisiana; sister Ann Bellan Mann (Roy) of Seattle, Washington; brother Larry Bellan (Susan) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bill was born on February 16, 1958, in Natchez, Mississippi. He grew up in Natchez and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1976, where he excelled in sports including football, baseball, basketball, and tennis. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi in 1980, where he played baseball as a walk-on for two years.

Bill served as the building coordinator for the University of Alabama School of Law and retired in May 2026.

Bill had several hobbies and interests that he enjoyed, including classic car shows and museums, deer hunting, fishing, water skiing, the outdoors, taking the kids (and their friends) out on the lake driving the boat, playing cornhole (reigning family cornhole champion), watching Ball State gymnastics, showing up and supporting his kids in their endeavors, and poking fun at Sherry. He was always willing to help people and made friends wherever he went. He will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank the following for their care and compassion: Shy Ann Burton (DCH), Jen Toomey (UAB), Alan Emig (UAB Palliative Care and Comfort Unit), Dr. Alexander Bray, the music therapists at UAB, and all of the doctors, nurses, and physical and occupational therapists at the UAB O'Neal Cancer Center, DCH, UAB Hospital, and UAB Palliative Care and Comfort Unit.

In lieu of flowers, Bill wished for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society for pancreatic cancer research.
