
Six West Alabama Counties See Gas Prices Above $4.00 A Gallon
After several weeks of incremental gas price increases, the average price at the pump has shot up for the second week in a row. The jump up nationally is 34 cents over a week ago, in Alabama, a fill up is 22 cents a gallon more than this time in April.
The national average cost of a gallon of gas is $4.45, while it is a bit cheaper in Alabama at $3.97 a gallon.

For the first time, six West Alabama counties are seeing gasoline costs above $4.00 a gallon.
- Perry remains the most expensive at $4.26 a gallon,
- Fayette is $4.06
- Greene is $4.04
- Hale $4.03
- Sumter $4.01
- Lamar $4.00
Marengo County is recording the lowest priced gas in West Alabama at $3.89 a gallon.
Tuscaloosa County is averaging $3.94 a gallon but a Monday check found some stations charging $4.00 a gallon.
The cost of gas is rising in all 50 states, according to Gas Buddy's Patrick De Haan. And more troubling is the price of diesel, which is touching $6.00 a gallon in some places but $5.64 in Alabama.
The more than 3 million U.S. truckers who move goods for everything from grocery stores to factories to construction sites are suffering with the highest diesel prices in years, compounding pressure on the industry as Iran's war-related oil price spikes also threaten to weaken freight demand. That has driven a number of shippers to switch to rail to keep their product costs down, further impacting truckers.
“Predicting gas prices is always tricky," says AAA -Alabama's Clay Ingram. "It’s like trying to guess somebody’s birthday."
There are so many factors affecting gas prices, such as the Strait of Hormuz, uncertainty about how long the Middle East Conflict will last, and the summer driving season, all of which impact prices.
