West Alabama Chamber Sets Destination for July Benchmarking Trip
A group of dignitaries from west Alabama will travel to a rival SEC city this summer to learn the lessons their leaders have to offer and bring them back for implementation back home.
The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama took its first Benchmarking trip to Greenville, South Carolina, in 2017 and has organized similar trips in collaboration with the University of Alabama and other sponsors every year since.
After a trip to Mobile last summer to hear about education, infrastructure and innovation there, the Chamber will go to Knoxville, Tennessee, this July to see what is working best in the home of the University of Tennessee.

“Benchmarking trips are a cornerstone of the Chamber’s commitment to strategic growth and collaboration,” said Chamber President and CEO Kyle South. “Knoxville’s economic momentum and investment in workforce development make it an excellent model for West Alabama, and we look forward to learning from their successes.”
The two cities have a lot in common - they're both college towns on the banks of scenic rivers, although Knoxville's population is much larger than Tuscaloosa's.
In a Tuesday announcement locking in the destination, Chamber leaders said the trip to Knoxville will take place July 13-15.
Seminars led by Tennessee leaders will highlight their research and development efforts, recent advances in public safety and their sharp emphasis on enhancing the quality of life in and around Knoxville.
