There was no threat to the University of Alabama campus early Saturday morning when first responders were called to a scene near Bryant-Denny Stadium to treat someone suffering from a gunshot wound, UA officials said in an email to students.

In an announcement from UA News sent just before 3 a.m. Saturday, a spokesperson told the student body that medics were called to an area near the stadium around midnight, where they found a person in a car who had been shot in the leg.

The injury was allegedly accidental, occurred off campus and was not life-threatening, according to UA.

The University said the victim was not affiliated with UA and that "there was never a related threat to the campus community."

UAPD investigators are working with the Tuscaloosa Police Department to gather more details about the incident, and anyone with additional information is asked to call TPD at 205-349-2121.
