A woman is still in critical condition after being struck by a car while walking on New Watermelon Road Monday night.

Tuscaloosa Police were called to the area of Jalapeño's Mexican Grill on New Watermelon Road around 7:50 p.m. after a driver called to report she had accidentally hit a pedestrian.

The driver was traveling west on New Watermelon Road in her Honda CRV when she suddenly saw the victim in the roadway. She was unable to stop before striking her.

When paramedics arrived, the victim, who is in her 20's, was unresponsive. She was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment of serious injuries.

Members of TPD's Accident Reconstruction Unit are continuing their investigation. However no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.
