University of Alabama Boasts Record Enrollment, Surpassing 40,000 For First Time
The University of Alabama is celebrating a series of record-breaking enrollment numbers this week after the final tallying of the 2024-2025 student population, which has surpassed 40,000 for the first time.
On Friday, UA announced that total enrollment is now an eye-popping 40,826, shattering previous records. That number includes more than 10,000 students who identify as minorities and 3,434 freshmen from the state of Alabama - both all-time highs.
Those students, who significantly boost the Tuscaloosa economy during their stay here, are also remaining on campus at previously unseen levels - UA said their second-year retention was nearly 90%.
“Students continue to be drawn to The University of Alabama and the world-class opportunities and support afforded here,” said Dr. Stuart R. Bell, UA president. “In the end, it’s the Alabama experience, the strength of our faculty, expanding research, and incredible resources and facilities that make students want to enroll at UA to pursue a meaningful degree.”
The huge student body includes residents from all of Alabama's 67 counties, all 50 states, Washington D.C. and 95 foreign countries.
The University of Alabama also awarded more than 9,000 degrees last academic year, the highest number in the state.
Bell and the University credit these numbers to the "Alabama experience," which marries maximized learning opportunities with service and support from outstanding faculty and staff.
UA also said their record number of students will only boost the almost $3 billion economic impact UA already boasts.
