As employees at Warrior Met Coal continue to strike, the United Mine Workers of America's Local Union 2397 is planning to hold a fundraiser to support the workers Saturday.

The strike began on April 1, and while negotiations between Warrior Met Coal and the UMWA are ongoing, no strike-ending deal has been reached.

Ariel Junkins, whose husband works at the Brookwood mine, is helping to organize the event.

"The negotiation process is not proceeding as planned, and we believe this will be a long strike for our miners," said Junkins.

The purpose of the event is to raise money for the miners who are currently on strike and will feature a silent auction, food for sale and kid's activities.

The union is also requesting the help of local businesses.

"We are asking businesses in our neighboring communities for donations and support," said Junkins. "Whether the support comes from monetary donations, promotional items, or just word of mouth referrals by letting people know about our event, our families would appreciate anything you are willing to give."

The event will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Local 2397 Union Hall in Brookwood.

If anyone would like to donate, they can contact Junkins by email at ariel_davis@live.com or by phone at 985-265-2834.
