Student Groups Plan to Protest Trump’s Time in Tuscaloosa Saturday
Students at the University of Alabama will gather on the Quad to protest Donald Trump's presence in Tuscaloosa as the former President plans to attend the Tide's showdown with the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.
The UA College Democrats distributed a press release to local media announcing a rally Saturday before the kickoff.
"It will serve as a forum for UA students and the Tuscaloosa community to express our
vocal distaste for former President Donald Trump, his dangerous rhetoric and promises,
and his decision to try to turn this pivotal matchup into a glorified campaign rally," they wrote.
The UACD is coordinating the tailgate protest with Bama Students for Harris-Walz and with the support of UA's Planned Parenthood Generation Action and will also be chalking campus and posting anti-Trump flyers and rally posters across campus this week.
Braden Vick, the President of the UA College Democrats, said the groups were hoping to have a Friday protest but, because of enhanced security measures around the game, ongoing construction projects and more, the only available location was near fraternity houses and the student grounds felt their safety would be at risk.
The Saturday tailgate protest will feature food and drinks, plus merchandise for sale for like-minded people.
With Georgia ranked No. 2 in the country and Alabama close behind at No. 4, this will be one of the most watched and most attended games of the season anywhere in the country.
Adding in Trump, Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville, the ESPN College Gameday crew and many more VIPS only raises the matchup's profile that much higher.
