Owners of Tuscaloosa's Sitar Indian Cuisine restaurant announced their forthcoming move to 220 15th Street East Friday. The new location will only be a few blocks away from their original home at the corner of 15th Street and Hackberry Lane.

The owners announced their temporary closure on their Facebook page in March. The restaurant, at the time, did not give any indication as to why they were leaving their original home between the former AMF Bama Lanes and Ichiban Japanese Grill.

But, the move seemed to point toward a new development for that area, as Ichiban had announced a forced removal shortly before Sitar's announcement went live.

Sitar, which opened in 2004, is the only place in Tuscaloosa to enjoy authentic Indian food.

Sitar is expected to replace the former Pokerrito68 restaurant, which was an Asian-style eatery well-known for its sushi burritos and poke bowls.

A former employee at Pokerrito68 spoke with the Tuscaloosa Thread Monday afternoon and confirmed that the restaurant has permanently closed.
