Those looking for work can find good salaries, state retirement and other benefits in roles for Tuscaloosa City Schools, where administrators seek to hire more than 40 new employees this summer.

TCS is in a hiring push between academic years, looking to add teachers, bus drivers and child nutrition staff before classes start in August. A system spokesperson said they currently have more than 40 open positions.

In their release, TCS boasted contracts that offer competitive compensation and benefits, including:

  • Salaries that are 3.5% above the state minimum salary schedule
  • Participation in the state retirement system
  • Affordable health insurance
  • Free (single) dental coverage for all employees
  • Additional benefits unique to TCS

As the Thread has reported, bus drivers operate vehicles with guaranteed air-conditioning and pay starts at almost $24 per hour.

TCS also offers a path for professionals to earn teaching credentials, although they noted that the system prefers hiring teachers with a background in education.

Potential hires should be caring people who are interested in community development and who care about the students they'll be serving. You can learn more online here.

Next month, there will also be a job fair for city schools on Wednesday, July 10th, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

TCS said in a press release that the job fair will feature on-site interviews, and candidates can meet with school leaders to learn about open jobs and the benefits and salaries that come with them.

“Joining Tuscaloosa City Schools means becoming part of a team that is deeply committed to student success and community growth,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Daria. “We’re looking for people who want to have an impact—who want their work to matter. If you care about kids and believe in their potential, we want to talk to you.”

Those seeking these jobs can apply online or bring multiple copies of their resume to the July job fair and be prepared for on-site interviews.
