The new owners of a growing North Tuscaloosa pizzeria will celebrate its grand reopening this weekend as they invite patrons to try a slice of TuscNY's handmade pizzas.

The Thread first reported about TuscNY when it was still the brainchild of Dan Robinson, an entrepreneur behind other now-closed or sold concepts including Burger U / Tuscaloosa Burger, the New Orleans Fry House in Temerson Square and Cravings Specialty Grocery Store.

In 2021, Robinson set out into uncharted territory in his culinary career. Having studied the craft of baking pizzas in New York, Chicago, Vegas and more, he opened TuscNY pizzeria in an unlikely home - the former Jerry's Dry Cleaners building at 229 McFarland Circle North.

TuscNY's first two years could probably be described as quirky without ruffling any feathers - handmaking pizzas with laboriously created ingredients often meant orders could only be placed during a very limited window, usually by phone call only, and had to be picked up in person.

Still, the quality of the product has always been impossible to deny and TuscNY has grown steadily. Last summer, Robinson partnered with a new management group owned by other local entrepreneurs to help him run TuscNY, and in November, he sold it to them outright and pledged to open another concept in the area eventually.

Now, having had time to iron out some wrinkles, the new owners will celebrate TuscNY's grand reopening this Saturday, January 20th, with an all-day party at the pizzeria.

Co-owner Josh Julian said the celebration will debut their new menu which features fresh items, a new drink menu for the bar and more.

Julian said some changes are minor but will be immediately noticeable - they've added online ordering, for one, and installed a soda fountain to offer refills and to-go drinks, so guests don't have to order by the can anymore.

Some things don't need changing, though - Julian said all pizzas will still be handmade with quality ingredients and served by the slice or whole pie.

"Everything people love about TuscNY is going to stay exactly the same," Julian said.

The Saturday celebration kicks off at 11 a.m. and will carry on all day until 7 p.m., Julian said. It will feature door prizes and other local businesses will be on-site to showcase their goods and celebrate Tuscaloosa entrepreneurship.

Julian also said they hope to provide live music, but this recent cold weather may prohibit that.

Stop by if you can on Saturday and try out TuscNY's handmade pizzas and more, and stay connected to the Tuscaloosa Thread for more exclusive coverage of restaurant and retail development in West Alabama.
