One of Tuscaloosa's most delightful traditions is back this weekend to raise money for an important local nonprofit as the Krispy Kreme Challenge returns to Government Plaza for its dozenth anniversary.

Every year, the unique race sees participants run a mile, eat a whole bunch of glazed donuts and run the mile back again - although participants do not have to enter the doughnut-eating contest to participate.

This event benefits the Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama, which for more than 40 years has partnered adult mentors called Bigs with children in need called Littles.

"This leads to positive academic, socio-emotional, and behavioral outcomes for youth," Organizers said in a press release. "One local little says the difference her Big has made on her life is something she hopes other kids like her get to experience. 'I can talk to her about things that I can’t talk to my real sisters about, she lets me talk about me and she listens.'"

The always-entertaining event is back tomorrow, Saturday, February 24th, at 10 a.m. in downtown Tuscaloosa's Government Plaza.

Other activities will also be available Saturday morning including face painting, prize giveaways, games and more family fun to enjoy.
