Good news for any Tuscaloosan who has suffered from a crippling fear of missing out every time a commercial for Jersey Mike's Sub Sandwich Shop aired between plays during an Alabama Football game -- the much-beloved chain is soon to open its first location in the Druid City.

A University of Alabama spokesperson confirmed Thursday that Jersey Mike's will set up shop on the Strip in the former home of Pita Pit, a quick-service Mediterranean restaurant that closed in Spring 2020.

The University did not have any additional comment about the newest tenant coming to its most popular stretch of real estate.

The sandwich franchise, which is headquartered in Manasquan, New Jersey, has almost 1,900 stores open in the United States with nearly 200 more set to open soon.

The closest locations right now are in Hoover, Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook or across the state line in Starkville, Mississippi, but soon Tuscaloosa residents will be able to order "A Sub Above" for themselves at 1207 University Boulevard.

From classics including Mike's Famous Philly and the towering Club Sub to brand-new offerings like the Grilled Portabella Mushroom & Swiss, there will be plenty for sandwich-lovers to try at Jersey Mike's -- welcome news after the closures of Pita Pit, Subs N' You, Philly Boyz and more.

There's no word yet on how long it will take to transform the former Pita Pit into a shiny new Jersey Mike's or when the sub shop will open for business and a franchise spokesperson could not be reached for comment before publication.
