A Tuscaloosa City councilwoman and a community activist had a tense verbal altercation following a city council meeting on Tuesday night, though police say no crime was committed.

The argument between the two women was reportedly over personal family matters, did not involve their leadership roles, and did not get physical.

A spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed that officers documented the incident, but no charges have been filed in its wake.

"A Tuscaloosa City councilwoman and a member of the community were involved in a verbal dispute following Tuesday night’s council meeting at City Hall," the spokesperson told local media. "The councilwoman told officers that the community member called her a name and said they were involved in an ongoing personal dispute."

TPD said it would not comment further on the matter. One participant declined to comment on the matter, and the other did not respond to requests for comment before this report was published.

"Officers documented the incident. No crime occurred, and no further information will be released," TPD said.
