Jimmie “JJ” Walker hosts 70s Soul Jam at Tuscaloosa, Alabama Amphitheater
The sounds of the 70s will be invading the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on Friday, October 1, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. The Coca-Cola Concert Series features the 70’s Soul Jam featuring The Stylistics, The Delfonics featuring William Hart, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, Enchantment, and Blue Magic. Jimmie "JJ" Walker will host this great night of legendary music.
The Stylistics
The Philadelphia soul group The Stylistics was one of the distinctive sounds of the 70s. Inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, the group had 12 Top Ten R&B Hits in which fans know every word. Classic songs like “Betcha By Golly Wow,” “I’m Stone In Love With You,” “Break Up To Make Up” and so many others.
The Delfonics featuring William Hart
“Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)” gained The Delfonics a Grammy Award for best R&B performance at the 13th Annual Grammy Awards. The Philadelphia soul group has given us great classics like “La-La (Means I Love You),” “Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide from Love),” “I’m Sorry,” and many others.
Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes
Providing the sounds of Philadelphia soul, Doo-Wop, Disco, and R&B, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes was founded in the 50s under another name, The Charlemagnes. In 1954, they made the switch to “The Blue Notes” with lead singer Harold Melvin. Now, they tour as the “Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes.”
Enchantment
Detroit Soul Band, Enchantment had success in the mid-70s with their best-known songs of “Gloria,” “It’s You That I Need,” “Sunshine,” and more. They released six albums over the 70s and 80s timeframe.
Blue Magic
The soul group from Philadelphia gave us one of the most popular songs of the 70s, “Sideshow,” reaching number 1 status on the US R&B charts. It also went to number 8 on the Pop charts as well. Blue Magic also gave us “Stop to Start,” “Spell,” “Three Ring Circus,” and more.
