Secondhand Bookstore 2nd & Charles Opening in Tuscaloosa This Month
A retailer that offers patrons the chance to buy and sell secondhand books and other media will open its first-ever Tuscaloosa location on McFarland Boulevard this month.
Work is already underway to bring 2nd & Charles, a store created by the Birmingham-based Books-A-Million company, to the Meadowbrook Shopping Center across McFarland Boulevard from Snow Hinton Park.
The modernized bookstore was debuted in Hoover in 2010 and has since spread to more than 40 locations in 18 states.
2nd & Charles, which will open next to Plato's Closet sometime in March, serendipitously applies the same concept as the secondhand clothing store but deals instead in books, CDs, DVD, video games and consoles, collectibles, comics, figurines and more.
Collectors of any of the above can bring as many as three totes full of them to the store at a time, leave the goods with a buyback manager and, soon after, receive an offer to sell the merchandise to 2nd & Charles.
Patrons looking to shop, not sell, will find a "treasure trove that's just your tune" of used and brand-new ephemera for readers, gamers, comic book fans and others.
An announcement from the 2nd & Charles company Facebook said the store will open this month and shared a link to follow development at the Tuscaloosa location.
