The Tuscaloosa Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a man who was caught on camera stealing a car with a 16-month-old toddler inside Sunday night.

The suspect gets out of the passenger side of a sedan parked at the Lucky Dollar convenience store on Crescent Ridge Road and enters a Ford Expedition that appears to have been left running before he drove out of the parking lot.

The vehicle he stole was not empty, though -- a 16-month-old boy was in the back of the SUV in which the man drove away.

Police were alerted to the kidnapping and were in the process of issuing a statewide AMBER Alert when the Expedition was found abandoned on Shaw Drive. The child was fortunately still in the vehicle unharmed, and he has been returned to his family.

Investigators have shared the video in the hopes that someone recognizes the man or the sedan in which he arrived.
