Tuscaloosa Police officers were at two local schools in force Monday morning to ensure safety after they got a tip on Instagram about the threat of a potential school shooting.

In a letter to families, school administrators said TPD and the FBI received a tip from an anonymous Instagram account tied to a nearly untraceable "burner" phone about a school shooting meant to occur at Paul W Bryant High School.

TPD dispatched officers to make sure the campus was safe and stayed that way - Bryant High and the nearby Eastwood Middle School both implemented secure perimeter protocols, which is one step below a full lockdown.

Students were engaged in normal activities inside their buildings, but no one was allowed to enter or leave.

Shortly before 10 a.m., Lydia Avant, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa City Schools, told the Thread that both campuses have since decreased to a status of heightened alert, and people are allowed to go inside and outside of buildings again.

"We appreciate TPD's support and assistance this morning," Avant said.
