Tide Tames Wildcats; Extends Win Streak to 6
The Alabama men's basketball team (10-3, 5-0) went into Rupp Arena tonight and defeated the Kentucky Wildcats (4-7, 3-1) on the road for the first time since 2006. The win extends the Crimson Tide winning streak to six games in a row and keeps the Crimson Tide in sole possession of first place in the SEC.
Despite not having starting point guard Jahvon Quinerly and losing both Herb Jones and Jordan Bruner to injury the Crimson Tide was able to emerge victorious 85-65. Jones left the game after appearing to injure his left wrist or hand in the first half and Bruner departed after sustaining a leg injury in the second half.
Alabama utilized its signature 3-point shooting and stifling defense to win in Rupp Arena for the first time in 15 years. The Crimson Tide made 14 3-point shots to Kentucky's four and forced 19 Big Blue turnovers to keep its undefeated conference record in tact.
Alabama was led offensively by senior John Petty who scored 23 points off four 3-point shots. He was helped out by sophomore guard Jaden Shackelford who scored 18 points.
Jones and Bruner both contributed eight points each prior to exiting the game with their respective injuries. According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium.com Jones injured a finger instead of the wrist that he fractured last season.
Alabama will host Arkansas at Coleman Coliseum on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 2:30 p.m. in its next contest. The Razorbacks are 10-2, 2-2 this season and travel to LSU tomorrow night before making the trip to Tuscaloosa.
