Alabama put up eight runs on the Troy Trojans today, on the back of a phenomenal pitching performance by senior right-handed pitcher Jacob McNairy.

McNairy was the true star of today's game, allowing one hit, zero runs, zero walks, and striking out seven batters in seven innings pitched. He had a perfect game rolling until Troy's first baseman William Sullivan got a single in left-center in the top of the seventh inning.

"I was locating my fastball well, I've been working on a new breaking ball and it's been better, and my changeup was good, so I had all three pitches working," said McNairy when asked about what was working well for him today against the Trojans.

McNairy's pitches weren't the only things working against Troy today at The Joe, however. Alabama's bats got to work early, putting up two runs in the first inning and never looked back, scoring in six of the eight innings they batted in.

The Crimson Tide finished the day with eight runs on 15 hits and two walks. Third baseman Zane Denton and outfielder Camden Hayslip both hit a solo home run over the left-center field fence.

Denton accounted for two of Alabama's runs via the home run and a double which scored the first baseman Drew Williamson from second base. Denton finished the day 3-4 with the two runs batted in and scored two runs himself.

Williamson went 2-4 on the day at the plate and had two runs batted in on a single in the first that scored shortstop Jim Jarvis and a double in the sixth inning that scored catcher Dominic Tamez.

Jarvis also went 3-5 at the plate today but had zero runs batted in and scored only one run himself.

The offense provided a lot of support for the performance that McNairy had on the mound, but that didn't change the way he approached pitching to the Trojans in this game.

"It [the run support] actually is a relief I would say. If it's zero to zero, I still go out there, I feel the same as if we are up 10-0...The runs help, but whether we are up 10 or down 10 I'm still going to do my job," McNairy said.

Troy's single run came on a Sullivan single off Alabama's Connor Ball in the top of the ninth inning. Trojan outfielder Trey Leonard scored from second on that hit, one of three hits that Ball allowed in that half of the ninth.

Alabama Baseball will be taking on Murray State in a three-game series this weekend at Sewell-Thomas Stadium starting on Friday at 3 p.m. and all of the action will be live on Tide100.9 FM and on the @Tide1009 Twitter page.
