The 205, a rooftop restaurant and bar located on the 6th floor of the Homewood Suites by Hilton is officially open for business and offers an unbeatable view of the Black Warrior River and downtown Tuscaloosa.

Open from 5 p.m. until 11 on weekdays and from 4 to 11 on Fridays and Saturdays, The 205 consider themselves entirely separate from the hotel and ready to cater to all of Tuscaloosa, not just guests at the Homewood.

“This is a spot for Tuscaloosa as a whole,” said Randall Hyde, the 205's manager.

The restaurant and bar are family-friendly and open for all ages and can serve as the setting of a scenic dinner with friends and family or just new place to drink a carefully crafted cocktail.

“This is a good place for families, college students, just a place for everyone,” Hyde said.

The venue itself features a modern chic setting, and turf flooring and a wall of garage windows add a touch of a high-end tailgate experience.

Even when the windows are closed, The 205 offers an almost 360-degree view of the downtown area, the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and the Black Warrior River.

In addition to its unique atmosphere, the restaurant also boasts a high-quality “true southern” food menu.

One standout option is “The Bama” a sandwich full of smoked chicken, Alabama white BBQ sauce, wickles, swiss cheese, bacon and coleslaw.

The bar offers a large selection of Alabama beers, different wines and signature cocktails.

The 205, for instance, is “a refreshing, light, summer drink,” incorporating Malibu, Bacardi and a variety of fruit juices. The "Eight-Tini" celebrates the University of Alabama football team's 18 National Championships.

This weekend, the bar and restaurant will serve as an outstanding viewing opportunity for the Independence Day firework show at the Amphitheater.

The restaurant will be open from 5-10 p.m., with a $10 cover. Because the holiday falls on a Sunday, bar services will end at 9, but there is still an opportunity to enjoy the downtown fireworks.

“Sunday will be first-come, first-serve, so get here early and plan ahead,” Hyde said.

Hyde said next week, The 205 will host its first trivia night and soon, they'll be regularly booking live music acts to add to the venue's mellow vibe. He said the restaurant's aesthetics, location, menu and the hospitality of his staff will all work together to make it a premiere destination in Tuscaloosa.
