Susan Quinn Blankenship, 79, passed away on July 3, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama.

A celebration of life service will be held July 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

She was born on December 1, 1944 in Eveleth, Minnesota to Paul and Barbara June Jackson.

She was precede in death by her parents and nephew, Paul Daniel Flournoy. Survivors include her son, Rain Blankenship (Natalie), daughter, Elizabeth Waldrop (Jason), brother Andrew Jackson (Suzi), sister, Liisa Flournoy, grandchildren Saylor Blankenship, Jack Blankenship (Allison), Dylan Waldrop, Grayson Waldrop, and Owen Waldrop.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Tuscaloosa High School Class of 1962, Dr. Leonard Jones and staff, and the staff at Hospice of West Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family suggestions donations be made to First Presbyterian Church (Montreat Youth Conferences), Tuscaloosa Friends of the Library Book Store, Hospice of West Alabama, or to an organization of your choice.

Susan’s family moved to Tuscaloosa shortly after her birth. She attended the Tuscaloosa City Schools and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1962. She graduated from the University of Alabama with Master degrees in Spanish and English.

She taught for 30 years in the Tuscaloosa City Schools. She later was appointed Foreign Language Director for the State of Alabama and resided in Montgomery until her retirement in 2004. Susan spent the last 20 years in Minnesota and Alabama enjoying her family.
