Tuscaloosa County’s Superintendent Hired Away, Search for Replacement Begins
Dr. Keri Johnson, the superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County School System for the last five years, is stepping down to take on another job elsewhere in Alabama.
Johnson was hired unanimously by the Pelham Board of Education to be their superintendent in nearby Shelby County on Wednesday night.

In a news release Thursday morning, TCSS said Johnson will formally resign at the September 2nd meeting of the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education.
“I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished together," Johnson wrote in a message to faculty and staff. "Please know that Tuscaloosa County will always hold a special place in my heart. The success of our system is because of you—our teachers, support staff, administrators, and every person who gives their best each day for students.”
Bill Squires, the President of the county school board, thanked her for her five years in the leadership role and said information about the search for the next superintendent will be shared soon.
TCSS comprises 36 schools that serve more than 19,000 students across the largest geographical area of any system in the state. By comparison, Tuscaloosa City Schools instructs about 11,000 students on 21 campuses.
TCS will be looking for a new superintendent soon as well - Dr. Mike Daria has announced this will be his last academic year leading the municipal system.
