Strong storms caused widespread damage in Hale County and other parts of west Alabama Sunday night, which will delay the start of school there Monday.

Severe thunderstorms reportedly downed numerous trees and powerlines in Greensboro, Alabama, and also in Uniontown and Marion in Perry County. Downed trees were reported in Brent in Bibb County,

About 800 customers were reportedly without power in Hale County with more than 1,400 in Perry County.

No injuries had been reported at 9:45 p.m. 

Because of the storm damage, the Hale County Board of Education has decided to delay the start of school there two hours on Monday.

"Due to widespread damage, downed trees and power lines from this afternoon’s storms, all Hale County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay Monday, August 19, the Board said on Facebook. "Buses will run 2 hours later than their normal time. Please continue to be weather-aware and stay safe."
