Downtown Tuscaloosa's Session Cocktails is raising awareness and funding for a different nonprofit organization each month through its 'Cocktail for a Cause' initiative, with Habitat for Humanity receiving the help this month.

The practice of helping area agencies has been in place since Session first opened in 2019, but was named and promoted this month.

Through the program, Habitat for Humanity will receive a potion of all proceeds from the sale of a specialty cocktail called the "Dirty Shirley."

The cocktail is made with Tito's Handmade Vodka, house-made grenadine, lime and Sprite. Donations can also be made directly to Habitat Tuscaloosa by individuals.

Session's longterm partner Tito's Handmade will match the bar's donation to the non-profit they partner with every month. Brock Corder with the Builders Group will also match the donation for the month of September.

"One of our core principles as a business is to positively impact the people that work for us, the people that join us for drinks, and the community we serve," said Hunter Wiggins, the founder and owner of Session Cocktails. "'Cocktail for a Cause' really helped us hit the mark of making a positive impact in people's lives."

The proceeds given to Habitat Tuscaloosa will go to honor the life and memory of Daniel Nielsen, who passed away in November 2021.

Nielsen was the president of the University of Alabama Habitat Campus Chapter from 2017-2019. Habitat Tuscaloosa will build a home for UA fraternity house food service employee, who is currently living in unsafe conditions, in Nielsen's honor.
