German Deli’s Grand Opening in Tuscaloosa to Double as Fundraiser After House Fire
The grand opening of a new German deli in downtown Tuscaloosa will now double as a fundraiser for its owner after his house was destroyed by a fire this weekend.
The new Rolf's is open now at 2324 4th Street, where Sage Juice Bar & Speakeasy permanently closed in late 2022 and Meyer is planning a three-day grand opening bash this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
This time of celebration for Meyer and his family was shattered this weekend, though, when lint in the clothes dryer reportedly started a fire that gutted their home in the Tuscaloosa County community in Buhl.
Meyer told the Thread Monday morning that their plans for the three-day grand opening of the downtown deli will continue - the show must go on, especially for a small business that just moved to a new space.
Donations will be accepted to help the Meyers recover from the fire, and the community can still come out and taste the unique German cuisine they offer at Rolf's. Whether you get adventurous and try schnitzel with spaetzle or just treat yourself to their delicious take on the classic chicken & waffles, most folks are likely to find something new to enjoy.
