Councilman Kip Tyner to Be Celebrated At Alberta Fountain Tonight At 6

The Alberta Park fountain serves as a memorial to the loss and destruction that the community suffered and to the spirit of the people who rebuilt after the April 27, 2011 EF4 tornado that ravaged the area. The City of Tuscaloosa could not have chosen a more appropriate location to honor the life and legacy of the late 5th District Councilman and Council President Kip Tyner.

Alberta was the center of Kip's life. And the disaster in 2011 brought out the best in Kip as he vowed to rebuild his lifelong community after that dark afternoon. The longtime council member worked to do just that virtually every day until his death on Friday, September 18th at the age of 70, after battling health challenges.

Funeral services were conducted for the man who truly embodied the spirit of Alberta last Friday. This evening the City of Tuscaloosa will hold a public "Celebration of Life and Service" to honor Kip Tyner, his legacy and decades of commitment to Tuscaloosa and the Alberta community. It will be held at the Fountain at Alberta Park at 2710 University Boulevard East.

The event is open to the public and will also be live-streamed to the City of Tuscaloosa's Facebook page. The program will run about 40 minutes.

University Boulevard East will close at 5:50 p.m. between 25th Avenue East and Durrett Grove (28th East Avenue) and will remain closed for the duration of the event.
