Interstate Closes in Greene County Following Vehicle Fire

UPDATE, 5:45 P.M.: The roadway is clear and the interstate has reopened.

Part of Interstate 59 is currently closed following a commercial vehicle fire that took place Thursday afternoon.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the fire took place shortly after 2 p.m. near mile marker 45 in Greene County, resulting in the closing of the northbound lanes for an undetermined amount of time.

ALDOT is currently assisting with traffic flow and are encouraging motorists to find alternate routes. Traffic is currently being detoured at exit 45 onto U.S. Highway 11.
