
Local Retailers Ready For Post Holiday Shopping
Friday will be the nineth busiest shopping day of the year for 2025 according to retail tracker Sensormatic Statistics. While much of the traffic in retail stores will be fore returns or exchanges, the study by Sensormatic reveals a significant amount of purchasing also takes place from impulse buying.
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is urging consumers not to delay when returning or exchanging holiday gifts, warning that post-Christmas returns often come with tighter rules and higher risks nowadays.
According to BBB, many retailers adjust their return policies during the holidays, shortening return windows or requiring receipts that clearly spell out deadlines. Waiting too long could mean being stuck with an item you can’t return.
The BBB also advises gift givers to make receipts available when possible so the returnee will have an easier time at the store. Also, be wary of scammers using too good to be true offers to steak your personal information.
Although online buying has reduced instore shopping, especially since the pandemic, retail associations are still expecting a post-Christmas increase in stores this year. The Alabama Retail Association points out that the smaller the community, the more impactful in person shopping becomes. Every purchase made in Alabama cities and towns support jobs, families, and communities right here at home.
Some of the most popular purchase items on the day after Christmas are holiday-oriented items like decorations, wrapping paper to save for next year and Christmas cards. Many retailers offer "After Christmas" sales in an effort to sell short shelf-life items like Christmas oriented foods. Sime shoppers use the day after Christmas sales to buy birthday and other special occasion gifts coming up in the new year.
Retailers report some o0of the other popular post-Christmas purchases include Electronics (TVs, laptops, tablets), clothing and fashion items, home appliances and furniture, and toys.
