Keith Carpenter, the assistant chief of the Northport Police Department, said officers were called to the 2400 block of 17th Street off of Lurleen Wallace Boulevard around 5:30 Thursday morning on reports of gunfire in the area.

Carpenter said one empty vehicle and one occupied dwelling were hit with bullets, but no one was injured in the shooting.

NPD has turned the investigation over to the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, who processed the scene and will develop any suspects in the case.
