Investigators in Tuscaloosa have identified the victim killed in a shooting early Saturday morning as a 30-year-old who lived here in the Druid City.

Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said Tuscaloosa Police officers and the VCU were first made aware of the shooting at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday,

Law enforcement officers and paramedics rushed to the intersection of 24th Street and Greensboro Avenue, where they discovered 30-year-old Michael Brand, Jr., suffering from a gunshot wound.

Kennedy said Brand was taken to a local hospital, but did not survive his injuries.

Police said the shooting took place approximately one block away from Club 205 on Greensboro Avenue as a large group of people were exiting the nightclub.

Kennedy said investigators know that numerous people witnessed the shooting, and he urged anyone who saw something to or has any additional information to immediately contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (205) 464-8690.

Brand's death marks the 20th homicide investigated by the VCU so far in 2021, by the unofficial count of the Tuscaloosa Thread.
