Police in Tuscaloosa are investigating after a predawn car accident killed a pedestrian Thursday morning.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said the victim was a 67-year-old woman who was crossing in the street in the 100 block of Skyland Boulevard when she was struck by a westbound vehicle.

The accident happened just after 2 a.m., and Taylor said the woman's injuries were severe and she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

TPD's Traffic Homicide Unit responded and is investigating the deadly accident. They are tasked with looking into all fatal collisions in the city, and their involvement does not necessarily imply criminal suspicion or pending charges.

The identity of the woman who was killed has not been released to the media as TPD works to notify their next of kin.
