Born on September 22, 1947, in Nyack, New York, Paul lived a life marked by service, dedication, and character. His journey began in New York and led him to Dunedin, Florida, where he graduated from Dunedin High School in 1966. He continued his education at St. Pete Junior College, graduating in 1968, where his talent on the golf course earned him the distinction of All-American. His passion for golf continued at East Tennessee State University, where he attended on a golf scholarship and graduated in 1970. During his time at ETSU, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Paul’s commitment to his country was unwavering. He served with distinction in the U.S. Coast Guard, first as an Aviation Electrician and later as a Marine Safety Inspector. His dedication and expertise led to a successful career, culminating in his retirement as a Lieutenant Commander. Following his military service, Paul continued to apply his knowledge and skills as a Marine Surveyor for the American Bureau of Shipping, with assignments in Guam and Mexico.
Paul was deeply committed to his community. While residing in Guam, he was an active and engaged member of the Rotary Club of Tumon Bay, serving in leadership roles including President, Treasurer, and Secretary. In Tuscaloosa, he found a spiritual home as a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Above all else, Paul cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Barbara Church DeLaire, whose unwavering love and support were the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind his son David Matthew DeLaire (Radhika), his daughter Anna Leigh DeLaire, and his son Ryan Thomas DeLaire (Samantha), who will forever hold dear his guidance and unconditional love.
