Police are investigating a Friday evening homicide in West Tuscaloosa.
Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, alerted local media just after 7 p.m. that his agency was called to take over the investigation of a killing on Washington Square in West Tuscaloosa.
The VCU, which is made up of detectives from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the Northport Police Department, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office and the University of Alabama, investigates all violent crimes, unnatural deaths and sex crimes in Tuscaloosa County.
No further details about the victim, suspect, circumstance or motive for the killing were immediately available.
UPDATE: Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the VCU, has told the Tuscaloosa Thread that the victim was a 13-year-old boy.
