Responding officers found a motorcycle had been involved in a crash near Jake's Juke Joint, and the rider has unfortunately been pronounced dead.

Carpenter said NPD's Accident Reconstruction Unit processed the scene and closed northbound lanes on Highway 43 for a while - traffic was being diverted through the Jake's parking lot until lanes reopened Sunday.

NPD said the driver is believed to be an adult male, but did not release his identity as they work to notify the family of the victim of the crash.

UPDATE: NPD has identified the driver as a 41-year-old Northport man, Jacob Edward Parris.

In a Monday morning update, Carpenter stated that what was originally reported as a single-vehicle accident actually involved a motorcycle and a GMC Yukon.

Although the Accident Reconstruction Unit is still investigating, Carpenter said no criminal charges are pending at this time.
