Gov. Ivey Issues Norman Crow Victory Proclamation
Now former Tuscaloosa City Councilman Norman Crow, a Republican, won the Alabama House District 63 special election on January 13th, defeating Democratic nominee Judith Taylor. He travelled to Montgomery, was sworn-in and took his seat in the lower chamber the next day, the second day of the 2026 legislative session.
The seat became vacant when former Tuscaloosa Republican Cynthia Almond resigned following her appointment by Governor Ivey as president of the Alabama Public Service Commission last June.

Governor Kay Ivey has now issued the official state proclamation acknowledging his victory. With the signature of Wes Allen at the bottom of the page, Crow's 1,114 to 613 votes victory margin over Democrat Judith Taylor is officially in the books.
On election night Crow stated, "I’m very grateful that the residents of district 63 have elected me as their representative and House District 63 and I’m looking forward to going to work for them,” he said.
Crow’s platforms included improving public education and maintaining a business-friendly environment.
After taking his seat, Crow was assigned to two house committees, Education Policy and Ways and Means, both extremely important assignments.
With his election Crow is also now a member of the Tuscaloosa County Legislation Committee which is composed of seven members from the House of representatives: Republicans Ron Bolton (District 61), Bill Lamb (District 62) and Bryan Brinyark (District 16). Democrats A.J. McCampbell (District 71), Chris England (District 70) and Curtis Travis (District 72).
Senate members of the committee are Republicans Gerald Allen (District 21), Matt Woods (District 24) and Democrat Bobby Singleton (District 24).
Taylor is the only candidate who qualified for House District 63 in the May 19 Democrat primary and will again challenge Crow in the November General Election.
