The boat ramp onto the Black Warrior River near Moundville will be temporarily closed starting Monday so crews can renovate and reorient the launching slab there.

The Moundville Public Boat Ramp is one of many maintained by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and boaters of all kinds use it to access rivers and lakes for fishing and outdoor recreation.

Starting Monday, the ramp in Moundville will be closed for renovations. In a press release, ADCNR stated that during the closure, workers will replace the concrete launching slab and reorient the new one. This will allow easier put-in and take-out of boats using the ramp.

The new position should also prevent some of the damage caused to the old ramp by commercial barges and other larger vessels on the river.

ADCNR estimates the project will take about 90 days to complete - they said a reopening date will be announced closer to the end of those three months.

"Funding for this project was provided through the Sport Fish Restoration Program, which is supported through excise taxes on the sale of outboard motor fuel, fishing equipment and the sale of Alabama fishing licenses," the state agency said in their release. "Additional funding was provided by Innovate Alabama, a statewide public-private partnership focused on entrepreneurship, technology and innovation with a mission to help businesses grow roots in Alabama."
